today is a big day you get to go homethe hospital staff will be helping you get ready for your discharge is very important that your familymembers were with you when the nurse goes over all their discharge amedication instructions your second postoperative day will be alot like yesterday the nurses will have three shifts changesthey will check your skin they will ask about your pain control if your doctor prescribed a medicationthat requires a shot

the nurse will show you and your familymember how to do this remember that just like yesterday it isvery important that you let the hospital staff know about your pain them today the buttonyou push for pain may be replaced with pain pills using these pills in the hospital willallow the nurse to determine if they are helping to control your pain get the pills are not effective thenurse will adjust the prescriptions and dosages as necessary before you leavethe hospital

so that you are as comfortable aspossible when you return home if you have an iv or catheter the nursewill remove them before you go home the doctor or doctors assistant willcome in to check on you want to talk about what you will need to do once you leave the hospital the patientcare coordinator were also come and make sure all of yourarrangements are made to go home if you're going to have a physicaltherapist for nurse visit your home this is called home health the dischargeplanner will make arrangements and give you all the information you will need

a walker and any other equipment you mayneed way to be given to you at the hospital or deliver to your home the nursingassistant will come in to help you get dressed for your trip home one of the most important parts of theday will be when your physical therapist comes in to go over your hipprecautions your exercises how to get in and out ofbed and how to walk with your walker do not cross your legs do not bendforward at the waist or move your leg up past 90 degrees do not turn your foot

in workout excessively today your goalsto get outta bed by yourself following your head precautions and useyour walker to try and go even farther than yesterday try to have a family member with youtoday so the physical therapist can go over all of your hip precautions and exercises they can also show yourfamily how to help you use your walker if you have stairs athome the physical therapist will show you and your family member how you should goup and down stairs remember up with the good like down withthe operated leg

your therapist may also discuss how toget the in and out of the car before you leave the hospital yourtherapist will give you a list a exercises an answer any other questionsyou or your family have to prepare for your departure make sureyou and your family ask any remaining questions and understand what isexpected if you want to return home make sure you have all necessaryhospital contact phone numbers in case additional questions arise after you leave once your family memberhas picked all the medications up from the pharmacy

you'll be placed in a wheelchair andtaken to your car by one of the hospital staff members congratulations. leaving the hospitalmarks the end of the first and most difficult phase of your surgery though you still have more work ahead of youonce you arrive home the second phase will be much easier
